St. Eugene’s Challenge Trophy

The five a side-basketball tournament conducted by St. Eugene’s BC will take place on the 5th and 6th of September 2009. The ‘B’ Division tournament is open for all basketball playing clubs affiliated with the Colombo District Basketball Association (CDBA), barring players who took part in the recently conducted ‘A’ Division tournament of the Colombo Super League tournament. The tournament is conducted with the blessings of CDBA, the regional governing body of the sport that is directly responsible for Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF). If clubs require to register with CDBA, St. Eugene’s BC will enable such clubs to obtain CDBA membership.


Tournament Information and Rules
  • This tournament is conducted by St. Eugene’s Basketball Club.
  • St. Eugene’s BC is an affiliated club of the Colombo District Basketball Association (CDBA), the regional body directly responsible for Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF).
  • The tournament is conducted as part of St. Eugene’s Association of former seminarians’ tenth year anniversary celebrations.
  • The tournament will be known as St. Eugene’s Challenge Trophy.
  • While St. Eugene’s BC encourages all participants to enjoy the tournament, the club also reminds players to conduct themselves in a manner that would not harm the spirit of the sport.
  • Any such behaviour will be strictly dealt with and will be reported to the Disciplinary Committee of Sri Lanka Basketball Federation for further action.
  • Each team will comprise of seven players and there’ll be no substitution allowed unless if a player is unable to take further part in a game due to an injury.
  • The time duration of first round and quarter-final matches will be two halves of seven minutes with an in between break of one minute.
  • For the semi-finals, consolation finals and the finals, it would be two halves of ten minutes and a break of two minutes in between Clock will be running and only stopped during time outs and as per the wishes of the on field referees when necessary.
  • In case of a tied match, teams will play on for extra two minutes. If there’s still no result, there would be a further two minute period and teams will play in such two minute periods until a result is arrived at.
  • There will be a maximum of three fouls for a player and he will be out of the game once he commits the third foul.
  • Teams need to submit Rs. 3000 as Entry Fees together with the Entry Form.
  • Teams will not require to pay referee fees as this will be done by the St. Eugene’s BC.
  • Teams require to submit the entry form before the 15th of August 2009.
  • The draw will be held one week from thereon at a location announced later.
All disputes during the game will be determined by the Technical Committee, who will take instructions from SLBF officials and referees in charge of the game.
